Show Rams Vin First Games Of Hoop Season Following a very successful opening of the practice season last week, during which the Parowan Par-owan High School basketball team won three victories which gave Coach Bruce Decker an opportunity op-portunity to play a large number num-ber of men, the squad was cut j 1 . ill. .1 HIV .11 -1 L VA 1 1 1 1 .1 T V . 1 . Coach Decker states that this number will be carried during the rest of the practice season, but that with the opening of division di-vision play, he will cut the squad to 12 men. Squad members now are as follows: Scotty Haycock, Rodney Bentley, Melvin Orton, Donald Halterman, Ronald Mortensen, Lyle Mortensen, Tebbs Adams,, Eric Claik, Larry King, Orland Halterman, Kent Whitney, Donald Don-ald Gurr, Donald Stubbs and Connell Mitchdl. Parowan opened the season with a win over Panguitch last Wednesday night, and continued in its winning ways on Friday and Saturday. Friday night the Rams trimmed Piute High by a 59 to 28 score, and Saturday evening eve-ning took a 43 to 31 victory from the Richfield High team after trailing in the game for three quarters. Roth games were play-ied play-ied in the Parowan gym. Coach Decker used 17 men in the game with Piute, and 10 of them got into the scoring column. col-umn. The visitors made a game of it for tht first quarter which ended 12 to 10 for the Rams. From there on the locals had their own way. with the half time score reading 30 to 12, the mini qua; lor score 50 to 15. In the Parowan Richfield game on Saturday night, the Rams were behind 12 to 7 at the end of the first period, and were behind be-hind one point, 18-17 at half- time. The score was knotted at I the end of the third quarter, but in the final period the Parowan squad got 15 points to 7 for the visitors. Coach Darker did a lot of experimenting ex-perimenting in both games, try-ing try-ing numerous combinations in an effort to get lined up on his men before this week's cut. This week end the Rams participate par-ticipate in the Parowan-Cedar, Springville- Joidan round robin. Next week they participate in another an-other round iobin in which Parowan, Paro-wan, Beaver, Dixie and Lincoln High of Panaca will take part. Friday, Dec. 17 the games will be in Parowan with Dixie playing Beaven and Parowan playing Lincoln, and Saturday, Dec. 18 the four teams will move to Beaver Bea-ver where Parowan plays Dixie and Beaver plays Lincoln. |
