Show Government Release On Building Material Affects City For the first time in more than 10 years anyone in southern Utah can build or modernize a home and other building without having hav-ing to worry about cither materials mater-ials shortages or government controls, according to W. Arthur Jones, local lumber and building materials dealer and member of the public affairs committee of the National Retail Lumber Dealers Assocition. "As of March 1, anyone can construct any type of building and can use any desired types of materials without securing permission from the federal government, gov-ernment, provided the necessary materials can be obtained with out priority assistance," Mr. Jones said. "Inasmuch as all types of lumber lum-ber and other building products are available in full supply, this means that everyone is free to start building without fear of delay due to scarcities or governmental govern-mental red tape. Some controls still remain over critical metals used in' manufacturing manu-facturing certain building products, pro-ducts, but even so the output will be sufficient to meet all for-seeable for-seeable demands. "Lumber and most other building build-ing materials have been decontrolled decon-trolled by OPS, and average prices of building products are below the ceilings formerly in effect. No important increases are expected. "An adequate supply of mortgage mort-gage funds for home owners and others also is anticipated locally, although difficulty in arranging FHA and VA housing loans is reported in some areas owning! to the fact that the government has kept interest rates on those loans at a level which makes them unattractive to lenders." |
