Show De Careful With Fire Utah'ns are a lucky lot. Utah mountains break destructive destruc-tive winds and catch snow for storage in winter. Come summer and they offer green forests, cool air, clear streams and wild, quiet hide-outs. Right now people of the valleys, weary and tired of heat and work, are flocking to the mountains for relief and rest Canyon roads are crowded, camp and picnic grounds are packed, fish streams are lined with fishermen and the wildest rim-rocks now echo sounds of townsfolk in retreat. To witness the popularity of the cool, green mountains one needs but drive into any canyon. See people there free and relaxed. There is, however, one factor of concern in this setting. It is this. Recreationists, relaxed almost to the point of abandonment, may allow fires to escape and burn the forest. These mountains have won a desperate des-perate battle against the desert to make fresh, green recreation rec-reation lands. To let a fire escape would be a stroke in favor of the desert. Utah mountain lands cannot keep green against the team of desert and fire. |
