Show Day-Long Program Is Set for Pioneer Day Celebration in Cedar Sports, music, speeches and dances will highlight the activities acti-vities of Pioneer Day in Cedar City on Monday, July 24. A full day's program is being sponsored by the Cedar City chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers Pion-eers and the Iron Mission chapter chap-ter of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. The program will begin at 10 a. m. on Monday with a concert in the City park. The concert will be given by the Cedar City high " school band under the direction of A. B. Larson. Following the concert there will be vocal numbers by the Lions club quartet, and a Pioneer Day oration by Bryan L. Bunker, Las Vegas, president of the Mo. apa L D S stake. A sports program at the city park will begin at 1:30 p. m. under the direction of LaVell Chamberlain, city recreation dl-lector. dl-lector. From 1:30 until 2:15 there will be sports contests for the children with prizes to be awarded. award-ed. From 2:15 until 3:30 there will be swimming events at the municipal pool under the direction direc-tion of Wallace (Red) Osborne. Beginning at 3:30 p. m. there will be a baseball game at the City ball park between the Junior Jun-ior American Legion teams of Cedar City and Caliente, Nev. At 6 p. m. at the city softball park, the first annual Girl's Invitational In-vitational Softball Tournament will get underway with eight Utah and Nevada teams competing. com-peting. In addition to the sports events there will be a children's dance at the open air pavilion from 6 until 7. This is under the direction direc-tion of the L D S Primary organization. or-ganization. At 9 p. m. at the open air pavilion pav-ilion there will be an old-time dance for young and old allke . This is being held under the tponsorship of the Stake M.I.AS. As a special feature of Pioneer Day, all pioneers over 65 will be guests of the Cedar and Parks tneatres on either Sunday or Monday, July 23 and 24.
