Show Cedar Army Man Shot by Stranger in Kansas With apparently no reason at all, a 19-year-old Fort Riley. Kansas, private, shot and wounded wound-ed a Camp Funston soldier, Sergeant Ser-geant Eldon Corry, 24, of Cedar City, about 12:30 a. m. Sunday, Jan. 28, according to word received re-ceived here early this week. The shooting occurred at the Palace club, two miles west of Manhattan, Kansas, on U. S. 40. Sgt. Corry was shot at close range and wounded three times. He was taken to a local hospital hospi-tal where his condition was described de-scribed as not serious. Private Marvin J. Pelowski was arrested within a few hours and readily admitted to the shooting. When questioned, Pelowski said he did not know Corry, and shot him only because he "wanted "want-ed to see someone fall". When arrested, Pelowski had in his possession a 7.65mm Czechoslo-vakian Czechoslo-vakian automatic pistol and two boxes of .32 calibre shells in his overcoat pocket. He went outside and saw a car, and according to his statement, he decided to shoot whoever got in the car. Corry came out of the club and got in the car to warm it up. Pelowski opened the car door and told him to get out. As Corry turned toward him to ask what he wanted. Pelowski fired twice. One shot struck Corry in the upper left arm, breaking It. The second shot hit him in the right side under the arm, but was only a flesh wound. Corry got out of the car and started to run and Pelowski fired two more shots. One of the bullets hit him in the right hip. Pelowski left the scene of the shooting, and walked two miles back to Manhattan before being picked up by police. |
