Show Soil Conservation Men Review Year's Activities Results of accomplishments In activities for soil and water conservation con-servation In the county were found to be very heartening when they were reviewed at a recent meeting of the board of supervisors for the Iron County Soil Conservation district. It was pointed out that during dur-ing the course of this past year, 5,884 acres of ground were cleared clear-ed of brush and much of this area was seeded to pasture grass to provide better and more forage for the livestock in this section, as well as acting as a soil holding hold-ing agent against the forces of water and wind erosion. In addition, tne district owned tractor has worked almost continuously con-tinuously throughout the year, either clearing roads of snow during the winter of '48 '49, or leveling land, building overnight storage ponds, stock watering ponds and many other practices planned specifically by the Soil Conservation Service technicians for saving soil and water in Iron county. A total of 1.2G7 acres of farmland farm-land was leveled and 20 irrigation irriga-tion water storage ponds were constructed in Iron county, showing show-ing that the farmers in this area have developed a definite interest inter-est in the efficient use of our limited supply of irrigation water. wa-ter. Many other conservation practices prac-tices were initiated, such as ir-rigation ir-rigation structures, proper fertilization, fertili-zation, and water spreading devices de-vices which will greatly increase the value and stability of our top-soil which means the difference? differ-ence? between a continued prosperous pros-perous advancement or a starvation star-vation retreat. The Conservation Service reports re-ports that although there is no large obvious Increase In better management of ranges, there continues to exist a realization by many ranchers that better management will economically and materially help them in their operations.
