When the season opened the Redmen were considered as also rans, but they have dceloped fast and will be battling right down the line for the district ti-tic ti-tic and a berth in the state tournament. Friday night the Redmen invaded in-vaded Orderville for a game with th hiphlv tnutpH Vallpv tpam nn the little Orderville floor, where many championship hopes are smashed. They were rated as "underdogs", but played probably prob-ably their best game of the year to win handily by a score of 47 to 33. In that game the Cedar team trailed 7 to 8 at the end of the first quarter, but managed to pull into a 19 to 17 lead at half time. They really started to click as the second half opened and pulled away to a 35 to 24 lead in the third quarter, and coasted to victory. Last night the Redmen entertained enter-tained the Dixie Flyers on the local lo-cal floor, and since they had previously pre-viously lost to Dixie 34 to 25, Coach Garrett's squad again was rater "underdogs". However, this was a must for the Redmen and they performed brilliantly to turn back their keenest rivals and climb into a first place tie with the St. George team. The Redmen Jumped into a 5 to 0 lead as the game opened, but Dixie came back strong to tie it up at 9 to 9 as the first quarter ended. Cedar again pulled pull-ed into the lead and held a three point advantage, 25 to 22 at half time. Midway in the third period the fighting Flyers rallied to pull into a tour point lead. Cedar narrowed nar-rowed the gap to 34 to 32 by the end of the period, and after the two had battled on even terms for half of the last period, the Redmen Jumped into a three point lead. The visitors whittled this down to one point with foul shots, but couldn't pull the game out of the fire. This puts the two teams in a tie, with each having three more games to play. Cedar must meet Kanab and Hurricane on the Cedar Ce-dar floor and meet Enterprise at Enterprise, while Dixie enter-i enter-i tains Valley and Enterprise and travels to Hurricane for its other game. |
