Show Cedar City Named As 1913 Convention City By Utah Lions CeJur City was chosen as the 1943 convention city of District 28 of Lions International, when delegates attending the annual state convention conven-tion in St. George last wec-c end voted to return to southern Utah a?ain next year. The Invitation was extended by Thomas B. Cardon. president-elect of the Cec'at City club. Invitations were also extended by the lions of Moub and of Morgan. On the first ballot Cedar City and Morgan tied, but tthe Morgan delegates dele-gates withdrew their city from the contest and Cedar City was unanimously unani-mously selected for the convention. T. Ray Kingston of Murray was chosen as District Governor for the coming year, defeating Gerald Irvine Ir-vine of Salt Lake City in a spirited race for the honor. Mr. Kingston succeeds Ira Overfelt of Gunnison as District Governor. Among the speakers of the convention con-vention were Walter Dexter of Sacramento, Sac-ramento, California, past president of Lions International; D. A. Skeen of Salt Lake City, Third Vice President Presi-dent of Lions International, Dr. Royal L. Oarff, assistant professor or speech at the University of Utah; and Glelnn Snow, president of the Dixie College in St. George. Entertainment features provided by the Host club Included a barbeque Thursday evening; a trip to Pine Valley recreation area Friday, where box luncheons were served; a dance Friday evening, and the Governor's Banquet and Ball Saturday evening. The Cedar City Lions Club played play-ed an Important part in the success of the convention, furnishing musical musi-cal numbers for several sessions, and presenting the "Model Lions Club Meeting" Saturday noon. The program at the Model Luncheon, Lunch-eon, at which Club President Gordon Gor-don Christensen presided, included several numbers by the Cedar Third Ward quartet composed of Reed Roberts, LoNoir Jones, Elthu What-cott What-cott and Eugen Palmer; two vocal solos by Miss Roene Bigler, accompanied accom-panied by Miss Maxine Petty; two committee reports, one by Gene Farnham and one by Thomas B. Cardon; a talk by Morgan Rollo M. J. Urie conducted the musical program, while Loran Whetten, Dr. R. W. Farnsworth, Furl Porter and Ned Sargent acted as "Tail Twisters." Twist-ers." The Third Ward quartet afco sang several numbers at the Governor's Banquet, and a quartet composed of Herschell Necley, Chauncey Macfarlane, Mac-farlane, Ned Sargent and Otto Fife accompanied by Mrs. Beth Leigh, furnished the music for the Friday morning session of the convention |
