Greenwood, state salvage chairman, announced names of community chairmen Wednesday, and appealed to Utahrs to cooperate with the committees in contributing scrap metals, old rubber rub-ber articles and old rags. John Hamilton has been named chairman of the Cedar City salvage committee, assisted by Kenneth Macfarlane and Wm. Pryor. Other community chairmen for Iron county were named as follows: Kanarrra, Jess F. Williams; Paragonah, Para-gonah, A. T. Lund, and Parowan, Jess Guymon. The WPA will have charge of the salvage campaign in the outlying commmunitles and from all farms and ranches. Plans for this campaign cam-paign have been completed and tha WPA workers are already busy gathering salvage material from these areas. Mr. Greenwood listed Wire.- types of salvage which Utah hou holders are asked to contribute. They are: 1. Scrap metals, including anything any-thing made of iron, steel, brass, copper, alumnin or lead. 2. Rubber, Including old tires and tubes, rubbers, galoshes, mats, hot water bottles or even rubber heels from wornout shoes. 3. Old rags, Including castoff clothing, burlap bags, draperies, mattresses, pillows, carpeting or anything which contains wool or cotton. No articles should be contributed If replacements for them will be necessary later. The government wants everything which is hot being used put into war production, but it does not want anything contributed which might have to be replaced, thus placing an added burden on the productive facilities of the nation. |
