Show Area skaters log wins By G.BRETT HART Sports Editor BOUNTIFUL 7, TAYLORS VILLE 0 BOUNTIFUL The Bountiful Braves logged their first shutout of the season, stopping the Taylorsville Warriors 7-0 Feb. 13 at the Bountiful Ice Arena in a prep hockey matchup. Scoring was shared by seven different Bountiful skaters including three who registered their first goals of the season. Mike Norman, Ryan Facer and Dave Bigelow sank their first goals against the Warriors, while Grant Golightly, Steve Davis, Travis Howick and Brandon Wallin each added a goal. BRIGHTON 17, BOUNTIFUL 0 SALT LAKE CITY Things went about as well as could be expected, however, against the league-leading league-leading Brighton Bengals Saturday, as the Salt Lake powerhouse shut out the Braves 17-0. "The kids played hard," Bountiful coach Mike Holmes said. "But we couldn't penetrate their defense. "We're playing better. I think if we play the way I we have been playing, we can beat just about anybody." I VIEWMONT 9, TAYLORSVILLE 2 BOUNTIFUL The Viewmont Viking skating club handed the Taylorsville Warriors their second loss in as many games, pounding THS 9-2 at the Bountiful Ice Arena Saturday. Two Viking skaters enjoyed hat tricks in Saturday's Satur-day's matchup. Craig Chisholm and Jeremy Duff in both registered three goals. Also scoring for the Vikings were skaters Todd Duke, Chris Melby and Clay Sniteman, who each chipped in one. Thanks to solid defensive play, Viewmont goalie Lance Osc arson had a relatively slow afternoon at the net. Oscarson ended the game with 13 saves as opposed oppos-ed to Taylorsville 's 22. Viewmont led 2-1 after the first and extended the lead to 6-1 after the second stanza en route to the seven-point win. The Viking win came in spite of the absence of leading Viewmont scorer Lester Lemmon and at least 24 minutes in the penalty box. More than 20 penalties were assessed in Saturday's contest, totalling over 40 minutes. DAVIS 11, ALTAI BOUNTIFUL Davis High skaters had little trouble with the Alta High Saturday at the Bountiful Ice Arena in an 1 1 -1 massacre of the hapless Hawks. Goalie Matt Jamieson came just one point away from the shutout but allowed one goal early. The Darts led 1 1-1 after two periods. Neither team scored in the third. In other skating news, the high school all-star game hockey game is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. The state's top skaters will gather at the Cottonwood Cotton-wood Ice Arena for the annual all-star festivities. Representing south Davis County are Bountiful's Brandon Wallin, Davis Ryan Barton and Viewmont skater Lester Lemmon. |
