Show 1 Use common sense -it's a matter of life Wisdom & Wisecracks By SHERRI EINFELT I witness as I travel 1-15 make me fear for the safety of me and my family (Sometimes I wonder why I feed my husband a good breakfast just to send him off to work on a death strip!) I'll admit that I generally gen-erally go a few mph over the speed limit, but even then I'm still practically prac-tically the slowest car on the road. The majority of us travel way too fast, don't use blinkers, follow too close, cut people off, and commit other driving blunders (sometimes intentionally) all while believing we're not hurting anybody. Wrong! When a driver makes an error and creates an accident, there's gen- r erally another vehicle involved. That other vehicle always carries somebody else's loved ones. And then after we've done all that, we get in our shiny automobiles and we zip down the freeway in a fashion that threatens to mutilate the body we just took such good care of! It's absurd to me that so many of us, especially those who commute between Davis County and Salt Lake, take so lightly light-ly our responsibility to practice safety arid common sense on the highways. It is fairly common knowledge that Utah ranks No. 1 in not wearing wear-ing seat belts and is in the top five for speeding violations. That, combined com-bined with the fact that we also have the most children, indicates that we're taking some awfully big risks with our precious cargo. And, I'm not disgusted simply on the basis of statistics, but from personal experience as well. The reckless driving habits, the close calls, the stupid mistakes that |
