Show Davis, Viking harriers fake Clipper Cross Country meet PHOTO BY TOM HARALDSEN The Viewmont Boys' Cross Country team emerged triumphant in the 1 990 Clipper Invitational Cross Country meet. Davis placed second followed by Woods Cross and Layton who tied for third. By TOM HARALDSEN LAYTON-Brandon Wilding of Bountiful High and Addie Stewart of Layton won individual titles, while Viewmont and Davis took team trophies in the third annual Davis County Clipper Cross Country Coun-try Invitational Saturday morning. Races were held under near-perfect near-perfect conditions at Layton City Park. It marked the third straight team title for the Viking boys and the second straight for Davis girls. In the boys race, Wilding held off a strong challenge from Viewmont's Tyler Gledhill and Jeremy Call, who finished second and third respectively. Wilding won the race in a time of 14:23 over the 2.8 mile course. Viewmont placed all seven of its runners in the top eight to thoroughly dominate the team event. ' The girls' race saw Stewart, the petite sophomore, edge out Viewmont's Windy Huthcings and Davis Sarah Butler for the individual in-dividual gold medal. Stewart's winning time was 18:31. Hutchings was second at 18:43. A non-scored JV race was held to begin the invitational, and Viewmont's Trevor Willey led a contingent of Viking runners who took the first nine places. Willey's winning time was 15:08. The invitational invita-tional again pointed out the strength of the Viking cross country program pro-gram that may have its deepest team in school history. In team scoring, Viewmont's boys had 20, Davis was second at 81, Woods Cross and Layton tied for third at 101, Clearfield was fifth at 118, and Bountiful sixth at 125. The girls title went to Davis with 44 points, followed by Layton at 55, Woods Cross 63, Clearfield 86 and Viewmont 89. Bountiful did not have a full girls team present Top 10 finishers in the boys varsity var-sity race were Wilding in first, Gledhill, second; Call, third; Paul Cutler, Viewmont, fourth; Scott Keate, Viewmont, fifth; Jed J oh an sen, Viewmont, sixth; Peter Hess, Viewmont, seventh; Jason Hess, Viewmont, eighth; Glen Combe, Davis, ninth; and Lance Palmer, Bountiful, 10th. The second ten were Josh Reese, Layton, 11th; John Diamond, Clearfield, Clear-field, 12th; Clark Finlinson, Davis, 13th; Jason Anderson, Woods Cross, 14th; Matt Brown, Woods Cross, 15th; B randon B ingham, Layton, 1 6th; Matt Brimhall, Layton, 17th; Jared Allen, Davis, 18th; Dave Marx, Woods Cross, 19th; and Jason Andersen, Davis, 20th. Girls finishing in the top 10 were Stewart, first; Hutchings, second; Butler, third; Sandra Verbroekken, Davis, fourth; Cheriste Crabtree, Clearfield, fifth; Celeste Smith, Woods Cross, sixth; Ashley Wagner, Davis, seventh; Jenny Heap, Woods Cross, eighth; Heidi Selin, Woods Cross, ninth; and Jenny Wadley, Viewmont, 10th. Second ten finishers were Heather McAllister, Layton, 11th; Karen Miller, Davis, 12th; Crista Johnson, Layton, 13th; Milisa Moon, Layton, 14th; Amy Hall, Clearfield, 15th; Katie Kimmell, Layton, 16th; Julianne Ryan, Viewmont, 17th; Dayna Smith, Davis, 18th; Michelle Devey, Woods Cross, 19th; and Rachel Van Comen, Clearfield, 20th. The first nine JV spots belonged to Viewmont runners Willey, Dave Miller, Robert Holman, Paul Servey, Ammon Jones, Bryce Anderson, Jason Hogge, Alan Pratt and Jeff Rast. Tenth was Robert Hunter of Davis. Second 10 JV's were Brian Har-ward Har-ward of Viewmont, 1 1th; Rob Ashby, Viewmont, 12th; Dan Wadley, Viewmont, 13th; Jonathan Willey, Viewmont, 14th; Rusty Ford, Viewmont, 15th; Corey Soren, Viewmont, 1 6th; John Mayer, Viewmont, 17th, Mark En-drizzi, En-drizzi, Viewmont, 18th; Dean Coy, Clearfield, 19th; and Brent Peterson, Peter-son, Viewmont, 20th. The annual race may be expanded next fall into a northern Utah invitational.
