Show Chief defends officers BOUNTIFUL-Police Chief Larry Higgins has expressesd concern con-cern over an editorial that appeared in the Sept 19, issue of the Dais County C Upper Higgins explained he is wormed about "the negative impression the editorial may have created of the Bountiful Police Department" He added that it is his goal to have his officers adhere to a strict conduct code. "If any of these incidents reported involve Bountiful officers, 1 want to know, ' said Higgins. ' He stated that every effort is made in Bountiful City to treat citizens with respect. He invited individuals in-dividuals who have complaints about his department or ? particular officer to contact him, "Positive public relations are an important part of police work in Bountiful. It is our goal to portray a helpful image to the citizens," the Chief stated. The editorial reported specific incidents of questionable police conduct which did not occur in Bountiful. The chief was advised by Clipper reporters of general complaints concerning Bountiful police officers, such as speed traps, harassment of teens, and citations being issued for minor infractions. Chief Higgins said the department has received periodic complaints regarding those issues and he would remind his officers of their responsibilities respon-sibilities to the community. Whenever we stop someone, as a we approach the car the driver has already formed a negative opinion of the officer. We don't want to do anything to enhance that," said the chief. |
