Show Our Headers Write Parents 'upset' with board Dear Editor As you arc well aware there are many residents in the City of West Bountiful who have a right to be upset with the Davis County School Board. For several years our students haven't even had books of their own to bring home at night to study, and the school board wants to spend $90,000 to bus kids to school who can walk! If we have that much extra money floating around in the school board budget, put it to useful and unnecessary items! There is no way that these kids can be bused over a period of six to ten years at that cost. The state board of transportation recommends recom-mends that school buses be replaced every ten years. These 'extra couple cou-ple buses" that the board claims to have come up with to bus our students will at some point have- to be replaced. The current cost of a school bus is approximately $60,000. Common sense tells us that cost will increase over the next ten years. The state board of transportation transporta-tion also states that the capacity of a school bus carrying high school students is 56. It is projected that there will be in a few years approximately approx-imately 570 students being bused from the West Bountiful area to Bountiful High. This will require not two but ten buses to stay within the state recommendation. Why are we putting out all this money on students who can walk to school? This raises the question of how many other unnecessary items are in the school board budget just to make 'a group of people' happy. The Farmington group of students will have to be bused anyway so bus them on up to Bountiful Boun-tiful and give them the "couple of extra buses," they found for our kids to use as activity buses and save us all a lot of inconvenience and money! Let our kids walk! Residents of West Bountiful |
