Show !! 1MII - ..M j County residents fare well with entries at Utah State Fair Davis County residents earned many of the top prizes awarded at the recent Utah State Fair. Heading the list of entrants who scored the most wins was Edward Ritter of Kaysville. The floriculture exhibit was filled with beautiful flowers raised by Ritter, a yearly favorite among the fair floriculture entries. Ritter received 1 0 awards of merit, eight special awards and five special awards for best in show. Most of the top prizes were given for Ritter's dahlias. Chervl PhiDDS of Clearfield County winners in the musical competition included Erick Oldroyd of Bountiful in the organ, junior competition; Sara Becker of Bountiful Boun-tiful in the harp, elementary competition; com-petition; April Clayton of Bountiful in the winds, junior division and Rosalie Lund of Bountiful in the strings intermediate category. Creative arts winners were Cindy S or ley of Layton for miscellaneous amateur entries, Douglas T. Nelson of Layton for professional leather-work leather-work and Fred Roe of Bountiful for the best exhibit. Several awards went to Davis County residents who entered the photography competition. Clinton Child of Bountiful received the fourth place award for still life-proam life-proam prints. The first place award for action-amateur prints went to David Langford of Centerville. The macro and super close-up proam print first place prize was given to R. Scott Olson of Bountiful. Boun-tiful. Marralana Weaver of North Salt Lake received the first place award for architectural amateur See Fair A-2 mm received the sweepstakes prize for baked goods and canning. The Ball Company gives a special award each fair season for excellence in preserved foods. The award for the best jam went to Suzi Jensen of Kaysville. Listed among the state fair rodeo winners was Lance Robinson, a professional cowboy from Farm-ington. Farm-ington. Robinson placed first in calf roping. Bruce Pitt of Centerville received the horticulture sweepstakes award for his nectarines. Listed as top prize winners in agriculture entries were William Rigby of Centerville for alfalfa and clover, Lois Thurgood of Syracuse for cucurbits, Troy and Greg Flint of Kaysville for onions. Davis County twins received prizes also. Sarah and Nicole Liechty of Centerville earned first place honors for alike twins ages nine and above. In the non-alike contest, Ashley and Brooke Christiansen Chris-tiansen of Bountiful received first place for children ages two to four, and Blake and Bran die Lyman of Woods Cross took third place in this same division. Mike Shomaker of the Oakridge Country Club placed second in the mystery bag cook-off for apprentice chefs. |
