Show PTA to present program for parents CEDAR CITY - The North Elementary PTA Board will present the "You're In Charge" program for parents on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. Brent Judd from Family Life Services will be the guest speaker. The "You're in Charge" program is designed to teach the children self-worth, self esteem and their rights to their own bodies. It is not a program to frighten them, but only to rein force that they do not need to put up with any kind of, abuse. It also teaches various ways to remain safe from harm not only from abuse, but everyday dangers. Children learn preventative strategies to protect themselves from all kinds of abuse, from sexual and phsyical by people they know, to avoiding the threats that some strangers pose. The program, which is partly on video tape and partly taught by prepared adults, is first shown to parents of school children. Rather than denying the figures on the one hand, or over-reacting with fear and alarm on the other hand, the PTA feels it is important that the parents and students of the school be armed with some information preventative information that is presented in a calm, non-threatening manner. |
