Show Shakespearean winners announced CEDAR CITY Winners of the sixth annual High School Shakespeare Competition conducted at Southern Utah State College have been announced. Westminister Division, set up for smaller schools, winners included Tom Robinson, Parowan High School, who received first place honors in the mono-act division, with Karen Lewis, Richfield High School, placing second and Dana Rohde, Enterprise En-terprise High School, taking third. In the area of duo-scenes, duo-scenes, Robbi Young and Colleen Matheson, Juab High School, nabbed the top seat, with Jay Greenburg and Nathan Buckland, Gunnison High School, placing second. Angela Mellor and Danine Bird, Juab High School took third. Oxford Division (larger schools) winners in the mono-act category were John Lawton, Chaparral High School, first place; Michelle Jordan, Ed W. Clark High School, second place; and Wendy Lewis, Provo High School, third place. Winners in the duo-acts scenes were Bernie Miller and Lori Adams, Brighton High School, first; Wil Quist and Brent Washburn, Springville High School, second; and Darrin Radeke and Tobin Atkinson, Brighton High School, third. All of the winners int he above categories were given full-tuition scholarships to SUSC. A total of over $3,000 in scholarships were given away, according to R. Scott Phillips, theater promotions coordinator.. In the ensemble scenes category in the Westminister West-minister Cateogry, Juab High School took first place honors; Park City High School, second; and Manti High School, third. In the Oxford Division, Mountain View High School came out on top; Brighton High School placed second; and Springville High School, third. Sweepstakes winners in the Westminster Division were Juab High School, first; Gunnison High School, second; and Richfield High School, third. In the Oxford Division, sweepstakes winners were Chaparral High School, first; Provo High School, second; and Mountain View High School, third. "We had seven new schools involved in it that we've never had before," said Phillips. He added that a total of 23 schools participated in the competition. Next year the college plans to include a learning lear-ning workshop in its competition. Phillips explained that students will still be judged at the beginning of the competition. |
