Show Local students invited to enter energy contest CEDAR CITY - Junior high and middle school students in southern Utah are invited to enter the second annual alternate energy contest sponsored by the Telluride Division of Utah Power & Light Co. Tony Bell, UP&L customer service representative in the utility's Telluride Division, is coordinator of the contest which is open to all seventh, eighth and ninth grade students in the area. Students are asked to enter projects depicting the use of an alternative source of energy. Wind-powered Wind-powered electric generators, solar-earth homes and schneider-hydroelectric schneider-hydroelectric generators are examples of some of last year's entries. "The objective of the contest is to encourage conservation of conventional con-ventional energy through the utilization of alternate alter-nate energy sources,' Bell said. "Utah Power encourages development of alternate renewable energy systems such as solar, geothermal, wind low-head hydro and garbage." Deadline for entering the contest is Feb. 1, 1983. First, second and third place winners will receive $100, $75 and $50 cash prizes , respectively, respec-tively, as well as trophies and ribbons. In addition, a matching cash award will be presented to the winner's teacher or school in the student's name for the .purchase of energy cirriculum materials. |
