Show Parowan High coach finds few good things about 60-0 drubbing PAROWAN There aren't an awful lot of good things a football coach can find in a 60-0 loss, but Parowan's Scott Doubek did find a few after his team was clobbered by Kanab here Friday. The loss dropped Parowan's Region 12 record to 0-2 with two games remaining. The Rams are 1-4 in all games. "There were some things we did well defensively, despite the score of the game," Doubek said. "I think we got good defensive play from Randy Robinson (linebacker), Renato Matheson (guard) and Mike Robinson (end)." Offensively, Doubek had good words for quarterback Alan Burton who comleted five passes "under some pretty difficult conditions." He was also pleased with the performance of running back Dan Robinson who picked up 36 net yards on 11 carries and caught two passes. "We actually played reasonably well during the first quarter, but then we started handing them too many chances, and Kanab is a team that thrives on the big play," Doubek said. "We did not want to give them the big play, but that's exactly what happened." hap-pened." Parowan held the Cowboys on the first series, but then turned the ball over on its own 12-yard line on a fumbled fum-bled punt r return attempt. On a fourth and five play, Whit Bunting found Wes Huntington in the endzone for a five-yard five-yard touchdown pass. A short punt and good return gave Kanab its next scoring opportunity. The Cowboys took over only 33 yards out. Eight plays later Hal Johnson bulled over from one yard with 1:52 left in the first quarter. At that point, Parowan was still very much in the game, but in the second quarter, the Rams began to crumble. Eric Brown took a pitch 38 yards around the right side to set up a one-yard one-yard Bunting touchdown. Another short punt and long return set up a 13-yard 13-yard Brown scoring scamper right up the middle of the line. Wade Orton found daylight up the middle on a punt return of 45 yards to score again for the Cowboys. And the halftime score soared up to 40-0 when 6-4 6-4 Scott Robertson took a 41-yard pass over 5-4 Shawn Spendlove with only seven seconds left in the second quarter. Parowan got its best drive of the game early in the third quarter.' The Rams marched a first and ten at the Kanab 34. Then things went awry again. A 13-yard loss and an incomplete in-complete pass ran Parowan out of downs. Kanab finished its scoring with a one-yard one-yard run by Ray Ott, a one-yard run by Ambrose Tacheenie, and a 21-yard pass from Brent Hafen to Shannon Parker. Parowan did get one more serious scoring opportunity when Randy Robinson p passed 30 yards to Mike Robinson for a first and ten at the Kanab 30. The Rams had a Wednesday contest scheduled against the Cedar City junior varsity. They close the season with a home game Oct. 15 against North Sevier and a road contest at Beaver, Oct. 21. |
