Show City council busy Plans approved for restaurant CEDAR CITY - Plans for a new steak house in Cedar City were approved ap-proved during a special city council meeting Sept. 30. According to representees of Golden Corral Steak House, construction will begin immediately, despite the council previously turning tur-ning down a request for industrial revenue bond. The new steak house will be located on south Main Street across from GO Real Estate. The council also discussed a building violation with Clint Hunt during another part of the meeting. Hunt had previously gone to the Planning Commission and requested a set-back requirement be changed by an ordinance. The commission denied Hunt's request. He then made his plea to the City Council who also turned him down. Hunt then went to the Board of Adjustments and requested a variance which was also denied. After receiving a "no" verdict, Hunt still proceeded with construction, con-struction, said City Manager Joe Melling, which eventually brought about a court order for Hunt to remove the portion of his building that was in direct violation of city ordinances. or-dinances. "If Hunt doesn't remove the part of the building that is in violation, then the city has a right to go in and remove the part of the building that is in violation," said Melling. However, the city and Hunt are planning to continue discussion on the issue to see if an agreement can be reached. During other business, City Councilman Conrad Hatch reported information in-formation regarding R. W. Beck, an engineering firm the city is considering con-sidering for engineering studies on the proposal to purchase the Cedar City power system from Utah Power & Light. However, the city does not thoroughly agree with the firm's proposed contract. "As it stands now, it is proposed to be open-ended," said Melling. He explained that the contract states that if the firm does not complete the work in the number of hours decided upon that it has the right to bill the city the same rate for completion. The city plans to meet with the firm again and draw up a contract that would state that the number of hours will not exceed a certain amount over the maximum they are entitled too. |
