Show Rape prevention workshop A rape prevention workshop will be held Oct. 22 at Southern Utah State College. Sponsored by the SUSC Women's Resources Committee and the Associated Students of SUSC, the workshop will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall. Kym and Jim McClelland, Mc-Clelland, professional staff members from the Rape Crisis Center in Salt Lake City, will be the workshop directors according ac-cording to Betty Kingsford, chairwoman of the Women's Resources Committee. "Increased incidences of rape and violence in this area have prompted that the workshop be held," Mrs. Kingsford said. "All persons interested in-terested in rape prevention are invited to attend the free seminar." Several topics will be discussed during the afternoon session, she said, including the statistics of rape, myths and facts, the psychology of rapists, help for vic-tims, vic-tims, community education, medical concerns and the effects of rape, or scars, on rape victims. Also discussed will be possible ways in which security can be improved in the Cedar City area through prevention methods and defenses, and the establishment of escort and advocacy programs. Additional information will deal with the services available to victims through the Salt Lake Rape Crisis Center. A panel discussion and question-and-answer period will be held during the evening session. |
