Show MX will 'X'Utah special here in Southern Utah a sense of security, safety, and belonging! MX will triple the Southern Utah population. But it will more than triple our problems. 3- MX will take large amounts of water, land and wildlife from Southern Utahn's reach. What will MX water consumption do to wells, springs, and our underground water table? What will MX land consumption do to cattlemen, cat-tlemen, sheepmen, hunters, vacationers and energy development? 4- MX is highly inflationary. The tax payers money floating around the MX Policy Board here in our area currently provides adequate proof of that; notwithstanding, not-withstanding, the multi-billions yet to be spent on the project itsef ! 5- MX is designed to allow a certain degree of monitoring by the U.S.S.R.; thus enabling the U.S. to keep its Salt II agreement. The U.S.S.R. has never honored such an agreement yet! 7- MX will insure complete destruction of Southern Utahns if the U.S.S.R. decided to initiate nuclear war in "first strike" military action. The fall out would then blow east across the rest of the U.S. killing Americans. These are my reasons, men, for opposing MX. I do not feel we should allow the government to use us and our way of life again! I believe Utahns should stop waiting for MX to happen, and begin fighting to stop it! Let's get it before it gets us! Kayleen Bundy Enoch Usually, just before an election, one hears all sorts of platitudes, cliches and political bromides from thosewould- be saviors of our political and economic systems. However, according to what one of our prominent and very civic-minded citizens, Willard Williams, had to say about a conversation con-versation he had with you regarding what Kanarraville Township, did or did not do, to deserve its tax-supported services, I stand amazed. Your attitude was, in substance, that Kanarraville, being a small community on the backside of Iron County, did not contribute a "dime's worth of tax support to the county and state, and therefore should not expect much in return." Do you, sir, maintain the same attitude at-titude toward New Haromony, New Castle, Modena, Boulder, Cannonville, Minersville, Orderville, Leeds, Santa Clara, Pine Valley and other such small communities that you are supposed to represent? It is well-known in Iron county how Enoch, where you and our State Representative reside, receives a very generous share of county, state and federal revenue sharing funds or is that just coincidental to your residence? The voters and taxpayers in these aforementioned communities, as well as others, should find out about what you think about their contributions to government services. If that is your attitude, and I could well believe it to be, I would suggest that you issue a meaningful public statement to the contrary, and not by just so much political rhetoric as politicians usually give out at election time. The trouble with politicians in the co-called co-called "two party" system, they take their political worth too much for granted. Bert G. Eastman Kanarraville Editor: The letter -MX- should evoke some type of emotional response from all Southern Utahns. Each one of us should examine the positive and negative aspects of this gigantic, modern, military proposal and take a stand for it or against it. Then we should air our positions publicly. I am against MX. My reasons are: 1- I do not want Southern Utah to become a catering service to the military. Southern Utahns have been economically independent from the beginning of settlement in this area. Self-respect and pride come from such independence! Let's not lose it. MX will bring a raise in food prices, home prices, land prices. But remember! Southern Utah civilians won't be allowed to live in the new, low-rent, low-rent, government base housing; nor buy their food at the commisary; nor their clothing and sporting goods at the PX where quality is high and prices are lower than in our local businesses. 2-MX will literally destroy our way of life! Having been a rancher's daughter here in Southern Utah, I am fiercely proud of my heritage. I feel a deep reverence for the land, the people and our way of life.
