Show Paragonah Council discusses water whether Mark and Royce Barton should get reimbursed for fees incurred in-curred while certifying as Emergency Medical Technicians. Topham said that if the Barton boys get reimbursed, so should Tony Dalton, who has also been through the program. It was mentioned that since the Barton boys were members of the fire department, that the town ought to reimburse them. Nancy Dalton reported that the volunteer fire department depart-ment did not carry E.M.T. insurance and that the Barton boys were informed that they were on their own when they functioned as E.M.T. 's. No action was taken. BY NANCY DALTON Record Correspondent PARAGONAH Solutions to the Paragonah "red water" problem were discussed Saturday night at Paragonah'sTown Board meeting. Howard Topham summed up the discussion: "We should do all we can to prevent this situation." Explaining his reasons, Topham said that when the red water appears to immediately turn out the water from the holding tank and use the clear water until it's gone. Hazel Jean Robinson suggested that a notice be posted as to warn residents of the condition. Top1.'"! siiRt'estod that the oki i-'ki'iiik be considered con-sidered as another source of water. Mayor Scott Barton remarked, "If we had foresight as good as our hindsight we would have purchased the Lyman spring." Barton also stated that the Town would need to get a right of way from the BLM before the old spring could be used. LeGrande Robb said that since the red water has cleared up, that he and Jim Anderson would clean out the tank and flush the fire hydrants. Anderson said that by flushing the hydrants, the residents of Paragonah would have muddy water for one day. Electrical and water billings were also discussed. Barton quoted the new town ruling, "that a $5 a month demand fee would be charged on all meters, whether .. they were being used or not." He also stated that the ruling was legal and that the town attorney would prosecute. Board member Topham reported that Frank Mangiameli had talked with Topham earlier about a discrepancy in the meter readings during the past ' five months. Apparently when the rates were increased, John Lefler had used a figure scale which was out of porportion, causing residents to be overcharged over-charged 75 cents to $2 per month, totaling from $3.75 to $10.00 overcharge per hook-up. The Town Board decided that it would cost more for the bookwork then the total reimbursement reim-bursement of overcharges, over-charges, and they tabled the issue. Two low-income home rehabilitation applications ap-plications were approved by the Town Board. The State gave Paragonah $1,269 last March to be used in helping low-income low-income families with home repairs. Mike Davis asked about repairing the roads where trenches were left when the Field Irrigation Company put in water lines. Barton remarked that an understanding between , the Field Irrigation and the Town was that the company would repair the roads. Barton also said that he had talked with Sam Lister, president of the Field Irrigation Company, Com-pany, who said that the roads had not settled enough to require repairs. It was decided that Davis would call Lister and have either the Field Irrigation Company repair the roads or have the town and bill the company. It was discussed |
