Show 1 ; Fire danger high BLM warns With an estimated 180,000 deer hunters expected to use the public lands in the hunt which opens Saturday, a note of caution as to possible fire danger throughout the state is emphasized by the Bureau of Land Management. The fire danger is some areas of the state is high and will remain so until the weather changes. A change is expected in the next few days but the pattern continues to shape up slowly with an immediate effect of increasing in-creasing winds. The winds will further affect the already acutely dry conditions which have resulted from the extended ex-tended high temperatures tem-peratures and low humidity. Most Bureau of Land Management areas are listed as moderate fire danger with the higher classifications occuring in the western portion of the state. According to Gary Wicks, BLM Utah state director, the use of public lands has been exceptionally ex-ceptionally high in recent days - - with record number of firewood cutters and elk hunters out and the use will accelerate ac-celerate with the deer season. The careless match or unattended camp fire could be the culprit that might cause another dangerous and expensive fire, he said. |
