Show St. George Proves Bottle-Neck Bottle-Neck For Criminals Attempting To Escape Proving that St. George is a hard bottleneck for criminals to get through, officers recently arrested car thieves here whose identification identifi-cation proved that one was an escaped convict, one just released from a Texas prison and one recently re-cently released from an Oklahoma reform school. The arrests were made on January 23rd and the men taken to Salt Lake City by a U. S. Marshal. James Banner was the escaped convict, having escaped from a California prison. David Johnson, was the name of the man who was recently released from prison and Richard Lage was the youth who was released from the Federal Fed-eral reformatory at El Reno, Okla. Upon questioning by Sheriff Antone B. Prince, the men confessed that this was loot that had been stolen in 1939 and that had been picked up from its hiding place after they had stolen the car. Stolen Car Found An abondoned Hudson car was investigated by officers with the result that it was found that it was a stolen car. Finger prints were taken and sent in to the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the result that the identity nf thi mfln whr unc HHwincr the. car was found. It was determined that he was an escaped convict and Federal officers are attempting attempt-ing to locate him. The car was found here on January 30th. Drunken Driving Charge Jerry A. Kinney of Pocatello, fda., was arrested here and brought before Justice of the Peace George F. Whitehead and charged with drunken driving. He pled guilty and was fined $100 and given a six-months' jail sentence. sen-tence. The jail sentence was partly suspended. He is being held in the county jail. Check-writer Arrested William Porter is being held here for trial in the district court under a charge of passing fradu-lent fradu-lent checks. He first passed checks on Dec. 22nd and when arrested redeemed the checks and was released re-leased on his promise of good behavior. be-havior. He later passed over a $100's worth in the first part of January and then skipped out, reports re-ports Sheriff Prince. Porter was located in Kingman and arrested and brought back here. At a preliminary hearing held before Justice Whitehead, he pled guilty and was bound over to the district court. Sprlngdale Man Arrested On January 31st, Alfred Pruesse of Springdale was arrested under a charge of illegally operating a dime slot machine. He pled guilty and was fined $25. The machine was confiscated and destroyed. Accident Investigated Officers investigated an accident acci-dent Monday night involving a Jos. J. Milne truck and cows owned by William Carter. The truck was driven by Raymond E. Butcher and is reported to have run into the stock when the crossed the road in front of the oncoming truck at a point opposite op-posite Dill's garage. Two cows wore killed. |
