Clarence Dahl, Distributor I You Can Get Out From Under NOW I - It Will Be Too Late After Election! j The City of St. George has a pretty good idea of what it will cost to I go into the power business. But, there is no positive assurance of what the City j- will get! ; First of all, there will be the initial bond issue of $300,000, plus a : minimum interest rate that is excessive to begin with and a prospective rate - that could run as high .as. 5. And then if $300,000 isn't enough money r- to build the proposed plant additional new bonds will have to be issued. j And remember once you shoulder this burden of debt, you'll have to pay the bondholders yes, whether the plant succeeds or not. The one thing Z in the whole BLETZACKER DEAL that you can be sure of is a gigantic bond jj obligation. r The thing you are NOT sure of is what you are going to get for your Z money. The plans and specifications are only sketchily drawn so sketchily drawn that no business corporation would ever think of sponsoring such a vague . proposal. And you don't know what the power rates would be. Nobody knows! j! Nobody excepting the bond : holders and even they won't be sure till they see Z how high the rates will need to be to insure that they will get all their money Z back. No one will have the legal right to fix rates but the bond holders. Z AND HERE'S SOMETHING TO PONDER: A municipal power plant I would become obsolete and practically f VJ' " useless if cheap power is brought to Mk r r' this vicinity from the Virgin River Jtjjfr jajt r project, Boulder Dam or other Federal to? 0 ' power projects. Certainly no obstruc- nV $f" " " tion should be put in the way of that ij 'p. . PV j Z I great opportunity! " W 1 yC'M Many citizens are under the V '' -impression that if the Proposed Ordi- f '-'v : t nance is voted down, then the Power company will automatically get a 15- ' t r, year franchise. NOTHING COULD t 2 BE FURTHER from the truth! The Power company franchise must be voted -on as a SEPARATE issue, later on. : The ciy council. holds the whip hand over the Power company because " 2 they can make the Power company furnish St. George power from month to r 2 month or year WITHOUT A FRANCHISE, if they see fit to do so, and if the ' 2 Proposed Ordinance is voted down, the City of St. George will only be released " 2 from Bletzacker-Burton Contract. r 2 When you vote NO on May 6th, 1941, it does not mean you are against - municipal ownership, but merely showing your disapproval of the Burton-BleO : zacker Deal, which we are confident was not negotiated for (he best interests - - of St. George City.
