Show Sixty-four Poppy Day Posters Entered By Students In Am. Legion Aux. Event A total of 64 Poppy Day posters were assembled in the 1941 contest con-test to top all past records for this annual event, sponsored by the local auxiliary of the American Ameri-can Legion, Lester Keate Post No. 90. Of the entries, one only came from the senior high school, eight from the Elementary school and the other 57 from the Woodward high school, giving the judges a veritable headache to make decisions de-cisions in the latter group, but a headache they were happy to have in view of the excellent work exhibited. Judges for the entries were R. A. Morris, formerly of St. George who is here from Charleston, Charles-ton, 111.; Mrs. Grant Whitehead and Miss Jessie Larson, who checked the entries under the specific regulations. Appeal, with (Continued on page four) Poppy Day Posters (Continued from first page) the Poppy Day theme stressed was allowed 50 points; artistic value, 15 points; originality of theme, 25 points; and neatness, 10 points, totalling up the score. Much appreciation was expressed by both sponsors and judges for the variety of posters entered this year, though it was deeply regretted re-gretted that many had to be eliminated elim-inated because of being done with crayons instead of water colors or other required media. Senior class honors went uncontested un-contested to Margaret Krig. Winning Win-ning first place in the junior high entries was Norma Jean Paolasso, Josephine Jones taking second place and honorable mention with a small cash award each going to Doris Kemp, Fay Washburn, Audrey Aud-rey Paxman, Enid McArthur and Nita Pendlton. In the Elementary division urst place went to Greg Hafen, second to Robert Nelson and honorable mention with small cash award to Velda Leany, Dor-othey Dor-othey Blankenagel, Ruth Marie Pickett, Jean Bowler, Bobby Bowman Bow-man and Esther Judd. |
