Show Dixie College Hews Due to the many conflicting activities, activi-ties, Girls' Day at the college has been postponed to May 9. according accord-ing to Miss Linna Snow, dean of women. D J C Dixie high students participating participat-ing in the music contests last Saturday Sat-urday were: K. D. Williams, bassoon; bas-soon; Wayne Prince, baritone horn ; John Miller, French horn; and Ila Holt, piano. Since most of Dixie's ensembles consist of college as well as high school students, they were ineligible to compete. However, How-ever, the band demonstrated the class A numbers. DJC CPT solo flights were taken recently by Sam Chynoweth, Vere Barnhurst, Jim Schulz, Earl Cox, Rex McAllister, Keith Terry and Paul Neilson. DJC Harold Anderson is the most recent National Defense student to be placed with the Douglas Aircraft company in California. Nine students were initiated into the X club last week. They are; Thomas Judd, DeWayne Bryner, Dwane Leany, Norman Hunt, Robert Rob-ert Fordham, Alma Woodbury, Grant Cottam, Melvin Ogden and LaMoin Lamb. To be eligible for membership the student must be above average aver-age in scholarship, a demonstrated leader and a prospective senior, the X club is the boys' service club of the college. DJC ' r A guidance project being carried on at the college should result in much good. Every student is being contacted by faculty members mem-bers as to their present status and their future plans. DJC Pres. Glenn E. Snow talked on "National Defense At Home", at a recent meeting of the Leeds P.-T. A. Music for the program was also furnished by the college. The opera, "Priscilla," will be presented Monday night at Enterprise Enter-prise and the following night at Hurricane. DJC The decorations were the outstanding out-standing feature of the Junior Prom, say those who attended. The white tissue paper was brilliantly bril-liantly lighted by numerous mirrors mir-rors on a revolving crystal ball, the mirrors reflecting the colors from hidden spotlights. Bill Swapp was Prom chairman. Working with him on the committee com-mittee were: Genevieve Asay, Jessie Larsen, Ruth Hafen, Norman Nor-man Atkfn, Vivien Prince, Roma Nisson, Truman Bowler, Clem Allen, Waldo Brooks, Robert Fordham, Gelie Merkley and Lloyd Carpenter. DJC The final meeting of the Faculty Fac-ulty Women's club for the school year will be held next Thursday. At last week's meeting Mrs. A. K. Hafen was elected president, presi-dent, Mrs. Rodney Ashby, first vice president, Miss Myrtle Henderson, Hen-derson, second vice president and Mrs. Charles Merkley, secretary-treasurer. |
