Show Dixie College News Most of the Dixie college instructors instruc-tors participated in the U. E. A. convention last week. Those participating par-ticipating were: President Glenn E. Snow, speaker in a panel discussion dis-cussion of the report of the com-nittee com-nittee of fifteen; A. K. Hafen, President of the modern language section; B. Glen Smith, member of the resolutions committee; President Snow, member of the coordinating committee on teacher teach-er retirement; H. L. Reid, member mem-ber of the house of delegates; Rodney Ashby, representative on the athletic board of control. DCN The Whitmore Oxygen company recently gave a demonstration before be-fore 50 students of the mechanic arts department. The demonstration showed that y use of an oxygen lance, a hole could be bored through a piece "f steel six inches thick in a very few seconds. It was also shown that by automatic cutting, a piece of steel six inches wide and two !nches thick could be cut in two j one minute, leaving a much j smoother cut than would be left j a hack saw. I Besides these were demonstrat- aluminum welding, special , "uxes and airplane welding. DCN Mathew M. Bentley was named a President of the Association of Collegiate Registrars at the meeting held in Ogdcn last Sat-Ul'. Sat-Ul'. The 1911 meeting of this rup will be hold in St. George. DCN '"e college joined with the citi-fns citi-fns of St. George in celebrating ,c draft registration day. The .'Wonts and faculty participated n the parade and enjoved the "'"gram. DCN tennis class for beginners got jndenvay Wednesday night at the Cinis courts. It is planned to Jj0d forth twice a week, on Wed-tsclay Wed-tsclay and Saturday evenings. Those interested who missed Wednesday Wed-nesday are invited to attend Saturday Sat-urday night at eight. There is no charge for the instruction nor the use of the courts for this class. A similar class is being held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 4 for students. DCN The flying division of the C. A. A. course got under way this week when Erick L. Anderson, Ander-son, the former Salt Lake Western West-ern Air dispatcher, arrived here with his plane to give the students stu-dents their first flying work in the air. R. H. Alley, flight inspector, was here last week to look over the set-up. He reports everything in favorable condidtion. M. E. Beeman is expected to arrive in the near future to inspect in-spect the ground course. DCN The faculty women's club of the college will act as hostesses to the parents of the college students stu-dents next Wednesday afternoon at the Science building from four to six. The purpose of the tea is to acquaint the patrons with the instructors in-structors of their sons and daughters, daugh-ters, and to discuss informally the work of the students at the college. Light, refreshments will be served, serv-ed, and a musical program will be given. All parents of Dixie college students stu-dents are urged to be present. The Women's Athletic association associ-ation has been organized, with a representative from each class. Thcv are: Shirley Harper. Lcda Fawcett. Roma Rcber and Laura Lytic. St. George; and Vivien Brookshv. Fredonia. Arizona. Mr. Smith, director of guidance, has announced the policy of civ-in" civ-in" aptitude tests to the coIIotc .-Indents. The purpose is to help crivp hotter advice in mat tors of vocational choice. The taking of the tests will be left to the indi-Hia's indi-Hia's own choice. |
