Show An Even 900 Register in County On Nations' First Peace Time Draft An even 900 registered Wednesday Wednes-day in Washington county in the first peace time draft registration registra-tion in the history of this nation. St. George East precinct took first honors with 248 signing up while the West precinct followed with 159 and Hurricane registered regis-tered 127. In reporting the East precinct, Miss Alice Pendleton, county clerk, draws attention to the fact that there were many California deer hunters who registered in this precinct and that this made some of the difference. In Pine Valley, for instance, there were four hunters registered there to bring the total to 15 where it would normally have been 11. In basing their estimate on the number who will register, Miss Pendleton states that it was figured fig-ured that 15 per cent of the population pop-ulation would come within these age limits. If this county is any criterion, then the nation as a whole will show a much smaller registration than was anticipated. Following are the way the various vari-ous precincts of the county reported re-ported their registration: St. George East, 248; St. George West, 159; Washington, 26; Rockviile, 23; Virgin, 25; New Harmony, 24; Toquerville, 29; Hurricane, 127; Springdale, 33; Leeds, 14; LaVerkin, 32; Santa Clara, 41; Ivins, 5; Enterprise 71; Gunlock, 11; Veyo, 10; Pine Valley, Val-ley, 15; Central 7, for a total of 900. |
