Show Jogging Day is Oct. 10 Governor Scott M. Matheson has declared Saturday, Oct. 10, as Jogging Day in the State of Utah. The action acknowledges the benefits of jogging as a means of improving physical fitness and gaining greater awareness of personal health. In his message, Governor Matheson commended the continuing efforts of Utah Governor's Council on Health and Fitness in cooperation with the National Jogging Association and others, in educating the public about fitness and preventive medicine through jogging. The Governor drew attention to the fact that 264,600 people of Utah are among the 40 million Americans who jog. He cited the need for citizens to be more aware of their personal health and engage in regular exercise programs similar totho.se schedules for National Jogging Day. Tim Butler, chairman of the Governor's Council on Health and Fitness commented that "The number of joggers is continuing to grow annually an-nually in the United States because jogging is a healthy activity, economically feasible, and fits well into the American lifestyle. Increasingly, physicians are recommending walking and jogging to their patients as a way to prevent America's number one killer, heart attack. "National Jogging Day is important because it reminds people that personal health depends to a great extent on what we do for ourselves. All of us know how great it is to run and feel free; let's share the opportunity with others. We are grateful to Governor Matheson for lending his voice and support to our efforts by endorsing our campaign." |
