V Uinffcafo Utfes Bose-games due poira depression Scoring droughts in the first and second games by the Uintah Utes enabled the Provo Bulldogs to defeat the host team in Vernal, Thursday, 15 to 3 and 15 to 5. The loss is Uintah's fifth region varsity setback in a row. The Utes ha ve a 1-6 region record and are 1-8 1-8 overall. Uintah was awarded the first serve, but the Utes failed to score any points on the serve by Kim Hamblin. The ball was given to Provo and a 4-0 lead was quickly gained by the Bulldogs. Lynnette Merrell blasted the ball over the net and returned the serve to the Uintah' Utes. Johnna Wiseman served the ball and Uintah gained one point to cut Provo's lead to three points, 4 to 1. However, Provo broke Uintah's serve and scored three points for a 7 to 1 lead. The sixth point was scored on an ace due to an outstanding serve. Uintah regained the ball and Pennie Murray gained a service point to cut Provo's lead to five points, 7 to 2. Hamblin knocked the ball over the net, which appeared to be good for point number three, but the shot was ruled no good by the officials. Provo scored two more points for a 9 to 2 advantage. The Utes broke the Bulldogs' service and server Merrell scored a point to give Uintah its third point and cut Provo's lead to six counters at 9 to 3. The ball was returned to Provo, but the Utes broke the Bulldogs' service in quick fashion. However, Nanette McCurdy served a bullet which hit the wall without the help of a bounce. Uintah suffered its first scoring drought of the encounter when Provo outscored the Utes, 6 to 0, to win the first game, 15 to 3. Merrell, Murray and Wiseman scored one point each for the Utes in the first game. Provo grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second game, but with Chantae Julius in the service lane, Uintah scored a counter to tie up the game at 1-1. However, Provo broke Uintah's serve and scored three points for a 4-1 lead. The Utes regained the serve and Murray served the ball to the Bulldogs. The ball was returned to the Utes, but Hamblin shook the Bulldogs with a miohtv shot over the net for Uintah's "Cr"-.7 second point. Uintah's Murray acquired another service point to cut Provo's lead to one counter, 4 to 3. It appeared that Uintah had a chance to got back into the ball game as they were only behind by one point, but they suffered point depression as Provo outscored Uintah, 10-0, for a 13-3 advantage. ad-vantage. Uintah snapped Provo's serve and acquired two points in a row to cut Provo's lead to eight points at 13-5. The Utes' chance at a sixth point was taken away when an official ruled that Merrell didn't serve the ball within the five second time period. Provo scored two more points to win the second ' game, 15 to 5. Murray and Merrell scored two points each for the Utes and Julius added one point in the second game. The I'intah Ute varsity volleyball team suffered losses to Orem, Sept. 22 and American Fork. Sept. 24. Orem downed Uintah 15 to 8 and 15 to 2 and American Fork toppled Uintah 16-14 and 15-8. "Uintah just can't pull it together," stated Uintah coach, Loa Kay Bowthorpe. "They (Uintah) get up and play really well, but they make mistakes and fall apart."
