Show Former resident dies at 93 Jay A. Kay, a former Vernal resident, resi-dent, died Sept. 28, 1981, at Capastrano Beach, Calif., at the age of 93. Mr. Kay, the son of John T. Kay and Mary Bascom Kay, married Annie Nielson of the Naples Ward. They operated a large cattle ranch on the Green River north of Jensen. Interested in geology and paleontology, he became a employee under Earl Douglass when the Carnegie Museum's dinosaur quarry was established and worked there for nearly 13 years. Later he moved his family to California Califor-nia where he worked as a supervisor of rail construction for the Union Pacific railroad in southern California and across southern Utah to the Hoover Dam construction. In his late 60s, Mr. Kay began painting pain-ting as a hobby and joined several art organizations. He received many awards and gave credit to the pictures he drew of the Vernal area while visiting each summer. One of the last paintings he did was near the dinosaur quarry and he received his highest rating for it. He is survived by his wife, Louise (Peg) Ingham, Riverside, Calif.; a brother, Alvin Kay, Vernal; and a sister, Millie K. Haws, Vernal. |
