Show BASEBALL STANDINGS Milwaukee captured the second half title in the American League East with a record of 31-22 and Kansas City nabbed the American League West title at 30-23. Montreal captured the National League East crown at 30-23 30-23 and Houston placed first in the National League West at 33-20. New York nabbed the first half crown in the Amerian League East at 34-22 and Oakland placed first in the American League West at 37-23. Phildelphia pocketed first place in the National League East at 30-20 and Los Angeles placed first in the National League West at 36-21. The split season took place due to the players' strike. The first place winners without the split season would have been as follows: American League East, Milwaukee, first, 62-47; American League West, Oakland, 64-45; National League East, St. Louis, 59-43 and National League West, Cincinnati, 66-42. The New York Yankees had an overall record of 59-48 and Kansas City's mark was 50-53. Montreal had a mark of 60-48 and Philadelphia had a 59-48 record. Houston posted a 61-49 mark and Los Angeles had a 63-47 mark. However, the overall standings are misleading as first half winners such as the Yankees and Phillies rested some players with injuries, who would have been playing late in the season if the pennant was on the line. Baltimore finished two games behind in the second half at 28-23 and in the first half at 31-23. The Orioles also finished a game behind in the overall standings at 59-46. |
