Show Manila Clara Robinson Phone 784-5333 J Sheriffs office reports for April The Daggett County Sheriff's Office has made the following report for the month of April, 1981, for the town of Manila: 54 calls answered, 12 assists made, 22 warnings issued, 11 citations issued, 7 arrests made which included the following : 2 for open container, 2 for controlled substance, 1 for illegal use of utilities, 2 for possession of stolen goods, a report of a truck theft was investigated, 2 reports of theft were investigated and 2 traffic accidents were investigated. The Manila Barrel Racing Club held its first Jackpot for the 1981 season on May 5. Winners in the four events in the ladies and three in the junior division were as follows: Ladies barrel racing, first place, Brenda Douglas, 19.04; second place-Cindy Hickey, 19.7; third place, Cindy Larsen, 19.8. Pole bending first place, Peggy Briggs, 23.7; second place, Cindy Larsen, 24.0; third place Valree Muir, 24.3. Keyhole Race first place, Cindy Hickey, 10.1; second place, Kathy Parkinson, 10.8; and third place Valree Muir, 11.4. Goat tying, first place, Cindy Hickey, 11.1; second place, Edie Pallesen, 15.3 and Cindy Larsen, 17.1. In the Junior Division barrel racing first place, Kathy Wilson, 22.8, second place, Teresa Potter, 23.3 and third palce Lisa Parkinson, 26.0. Pole bending ben-ding first place Kathy Wilson, 28.3, Teresa Potter, 31.4 and third place Amy Schofield, 45.8. Keyhole race first place Teresa Potter, 10.8 and Lisa Parkinson, 11.4. The Manila Chamber of Commerce is busy planning a Jackpot Fishing Derby for the Memorial Day weekend May 23, 24, and 25. Hoping for a good turn out, the are offering prizes in three categories: Browns, Macks and Rainbows. They are also offering a drawing for a $50 cash prize for the winning ticket holder. Tickets for the fishing derby are on sale at local businesses. Fishing competition begins at 12 noon on Saturday and all fish must be weighed by 5 p.m. Monday after the past week. From May 1 until May 8 the temperature dropped from a high of 80 degrees and a low of 49 to a high of 50 and a low of 26. The 26 did not seem to do much harm, but the following day when it was 30 and 31 with a cold wind and snow, fruit was seriously damaged even where it was protected. Only .02 of an inch of moisture fell during the storm. This brings May precipitation to .U7 of an inch. Manila Fire Department is planning a sloppy joe dinner for the Memorial weekend. Jacey Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Anderson, was baptized Saturday evening. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Anderson this weekend were Kirby's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Anderson of Emery, Utah. Visiting at the home of Mrs." Marth Nelson this weekend were her son Lloyd Nelson of Montrose, Colo., her , daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Harris of Duchesne. In conjunction with the fishing derby the Manila Ladies Fire Department . Auxiliary is giving away a beautiful handmade quilt. The Daggett County Planning Commission has resumed their responsibilities and have been holding meetings weekly until they catch up on past business. The Planning Commission Com-mission members are Bill Rogers, chairman, William Robinson, Alan Campbell, Bob Meinrod, Carole Scott, William Briggs and Daggett County Commissioner Carl Collett. Jim Briggs, county building inspector, has attended all the meetings. The meetings have been held at the Daggett County Courthouse on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. The next meeting will be June 2.
