Show Vernal Panthers capture two first places in Basin meet Vernal Jr. High's boy' tracksters captured first places in the seventh grade and ninth grade divisions in the Basin Day track meet in Roosevelt, Friday. Vernal's seventh graders placed first with 87 points and Roosevelt nabbed second place at 73 points. West placed third at 15 points and Duchesne placed fourth at 14 counters. Altamont captured fifth place at six points. The 9th grade Panthers nabbed first place with 107 points and Roosevelt garnered second place at 62'2 points. West placed third at 32V- points and Duchesne placed fourth at one point. Roosevelt captured first place in the eighth grade division at 88 points and Vernal placed second at 79' points. Duchesne pocketed third place at 24 counters and Altamont netted fourth place at nine points. West picked up fifth place honors at seven points. Vernal's Dee Steinfeld captured first place seventh grade crowns in the 100, 220 and low hurdles. John Nash placed second and Larry Bartlett nabbed third place in the 100 and 220 yard dashes. Nash captured first place in the 440 yard run. Steve Burris placed third and Bartlett nabbed fourth place in the low hurdles. Brian Tassainer nabbed fifth place in the 880 yard run. David Richens captured first place in the triple jump and Valton Mortensen placed second. Tassainer netted third place. Steinfeld placed second in the long jump and Bartlett nabbed third place. Greg Jaramillo pocketed fourth places in the long jump and high jump. Ryan Remington pocketed fifth place in the pole vault. Vernal's 440 yard relay team. Wayne Groo, Burris, Bartlett and Steinfeld, nabbed first place. The Panthers' 880 yard relay team. Glen Hill, Stewart Jensen, Richard Rust, Mortensen and medley relay team, Nash, Darren Johnson, Remington, Jaramillo, placed second. Neldon Smuin captured three first places in the ninth grade division. He placed first in the 440, 220 and 100 yard dashes. Also placing were: Mike Lance, third; Mike Brady, fifth, 100; Alec Clark, fifth; Lance, second place tie, 220 and Clark, fourth; Brady, fifth place tie, 440. Lance picked up first place in the low hurdles and Clark placed first in the pole vault. Gary Swim leaped 5'10" for first place in the high jump and Kurt Robb captured first place in the long jump. Also placing were: Marc Reynolds, fourth; Clark, fifth, low hurdles; Rasmussen, fifth, high jump and Smuin, third; Reynolds, fourth, long jump. Vernal's 440 yard relay team. Lance, Mike Robbins, Brady, Reynolds, and the' Panthers' medley relay team, Robb, Swim, Clark, Smuin, nabbed first places. Vernal's 880 yard relay team, Slaugh, Rasmussen, Brad Richens and Steve Brock placed second. Richens captured second place in the triple jump and Reynolds netted third place. Robb placed second in the discus and Darin Slaugh placed fourth. Robbins nabbed fifth place. Brock placed second in the mile. Robert Merrell garnered two first places in the eighth grade division in the 100 and 220 yard dashes. Tony Lewis tied for third place in the 100 and placed third in the 440. Kenny Rasmussen nabbed second place in the 440 and fifth place in the 220. Mike Smith placed second in the pole vault. Steve Lent captured first place in the long jump and Vernal's 440 yard relay team, Merrell, Ryan Siddoway, Smith, Lewis, placed second. The Panthers' 880 yard relay team. Curt Taylor, Troy Caldwell, Rasmussen, Lent, nabbed second place. |
