'iCN TRUCK LAYS on its side after rolling over near Steinaker Reservoir killing one passenger and Roiioifor claims local youth An automobile accident claimed the life of a Vernal youth Sunday, after the vehicle he was riding in lost control and rolled near Steinaker Reservoir. Grant LaVon Ralphs, 18, died of internal injuries at the Uintah County Hospital. The vehicle he was riding in, driven by Ronald Dean McAdams, was southbound on U-44, lost control 5 '6 miles north of Vernal, and ran off the left side of the highway and rolled, reported Utah Highway Patrol officers. Gary Osiek, 16, another passenger in the vehicle, was flown Sunday night to a Salt Lake City hospital where he was last reported in critical condition. Other passengers in the truck were Greg Hatch, 18, Tracy Anderson, 18, and Vance Norton, 16. The accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. Vernal City Police reported a four-car four-car accident on First North and Vernal Ave. at 11:25 a.m. last Friday. seriously injuring another. The track was traveling travel-ing south on U-44. A 1972 pickup driven by Clawson Elliot, 76, Vernal, was traveling west on 100 North and attempted a left turn onto Vernal Avenue. He struck a southbound 1979 Old-smobile Old-smobile driven by Angela Corless, 16, of Vernal, Mike Hamner, Vernal City Police said. The impact of the collision spun the Corless vehicle across the center line and it was struck by a northbound 1981 Phoenix driven by Linda McKee, 16, Vernal. The Oldsmobile finally came to rest as it ran into a parked 1971 Dodge occupied by Betty Zeller, in front of Jones Paint and Glass. Angela Corless was transported to the Uintah County Hospital where she was treated for a minor back sprain and released. Total damages were $5,600 including all vehicles. Elliot was cited with failure to yield right, of way. Also, a pedestrian accident occurred at 100 West Main Saturday, May 9, at 10:03 a.m. A 1979 Buick Electra driven by a 17 year old Myton man struck Kelly B. O'Neil who was crossing the street to the south. He suffered minor injuries to the left leg, and was transported tran-sported to the county hsopital and later released. Traffic officers report that, to date, pedestrian accidents in Vernal City are up 200 percent while traffic accidents are down 20 percent. "I advise pedestrians and drivers to be more alert," Hamner said. "Use crosswalks and don't just cross the street anywhere." The Uintah County Sheriff's Department handled a two-vehicle accident Wednesday, May 6, at 500 North and 1500 East. A small pickup was attempting a left turn after crossing Ashley Creek Bridge. A Pontiac which was unable to slow down, ran into the back of the truck causing injuries to a woman passenger. |
