Show Police Activity for Past Year Reviewed by Chief Dalton Police Chief Melvin Dalton has released a round-up of City Police activities for the year of 1974. An increase in vandalism, vandal-ism, theft, and shoplifting shoplift-ing was experienced in Moab during 1974, although al-though there were no major ma-jor crimes such as robberies, rob-beries, rape, murder, ag- gressive assault, or auto fatalities. There were 31 acts of vandalism committed com-mitted which is a big jump over 1973's total. The number of citations given during the year climbed from the 399 given giv-en in 1973 to 577 in 1974. Accidents which happened inside the city limits totaled to-taled 137 which is also over the 118 which occured in the previous year. Fewer tickets were issued is-sued for the charge of driving while intoxicated. There were 24 given during dur-ing 1974 which is lower than the 32 issued in 1973. Tickets for public intoxication intox-ication were fewer, too, with only six issued last year compared to the 14 issued in 1973. Bicycles recovered and returned to the owners during the year totaled 37, which is down from the total of 49 recovered recover-ed in 1973. 39 burglaries were investigated in-vestigated during 1974 and 18 of those were solved. sol-ved. This number of investigations in-vestigations is many times tim-es over the total made in 1973. All police ollicers exceeded ex-ceeded their 40 hour school requirement and 87 public appearances were made by officers who either talked or gave instruction. A total of 1,430 calls were made where it was necessary for an officer to take some type of action. One new officer, Val Teeples was hired near the end of the year to replace ' Jim Nyland who is now a reserve officer, and a part time secretary was also hired to keep records. rec-ords. During the year 73 juveniles ju-veniles were referred to juvenile court which represents rep-resents a considerable increase over the previous prev-ious year; and 225 juveniles juven-iles were referred back to their parents. The Department of Dog and Animal Control picked pick-ed up 355 dogs, 215 cats and 119 skunks duringthe year. |
