Show VJcstvatcr Canyon Nov Officially VVW River Senator Frank E. (Ted) Moss began work in January Jan-uary 1971 to amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to include a segment of the Colorado River in Utah as a component of the national wild and scenic sce-nic rivers system. The bill just signed includes the Moss provision which protects a 36-mile stretch of river in West-water West-water Canyon in Grand County from commercial interests and will keep it forever wild. Names like Sock-it-to-Me, Wildhorse, Skull, and Last Chance identify exciting rapid areas of the scenic river. The river ri-ver begins at the Utah-Colorado Utah-Colorado border in the Westwater area and flows down the Colorado River to its junction with the Dolores River. The wild rivers designation desig-nation is applied to cer-', cer-', tain selected rivers of the Nation which have remarkable scenic, recreational, re-creational, geological, geologic-al, or other values which should be preserved by keeping the river in its natural free-flowing condition and its shore environment in its natural natur-al state. "This legislation legisla-tion will protect a portion of one of our beautiful waterways in its most natural conditions so that generations to come may enjoy them unimpaired by manmade incursions, Senator Moss stated. "This reach of the Colorado Co-lorado River in Utah superbly su-perbly qualified for inclusion in-clusion in the national wild and scenic rivers system." |
