Lemieux' Cafe, which is just under construction, construc-tion, and has not yet opened, was badly damaged dam-aged by a fire Saturday afternoon. It is believed that panel adhesive being used flashed, and the fire quickly spread to the inside in-side of the lounge part of the establishment. The seats were burned the counter top damaged, and burlap drapes blazed, blaz-ed, destroying the ceiling of the lounge. Damage was extensive, both to the building and to other paneling which was being used in the cafe part. Visits Vegas. . . Mr. and Mrs. Tim Anderson An-derson picked up friends of theirs, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pennington of Ma-pleton Ma-pleton and the two couples cou-ples spent three days in Las Vegas recently. The took in all the sights, won jackpots, and really lived it up, even to 'the point of bringing back part of the money they took along. Birthday Bridge Club. . . Mrs. Grace Peterson entertained the Birthday Bridge Club in honor of Mrs. Letitia Thompson on Saturday evening. There were two tables in play with Mrs. Lucille Silliman taking high score, Mrs. Helen Tid-well, Tid-well, low, and Mrs. No-reen No-reen Wilson the traveling prize. : Attending were Mrs. May Wilson, Mrs. Edith Gardner, Mrs. Mae Silliman, Sil-liman, Mrs. Lucille Silliman, Sil-liman, Mrs. Helen Tid- well, Mrs. Noreen Wilson Wil-son and the guest of honor. Proud Parents. . . Mr. and Mrs. Doug Wadzeck are the proud parents of a baby boy. He was born Saturday, Jan. 18, 2:44 p.m. and weighed 6 lbs. 15 ozs. He will be named Cody Lee. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Har-mond Har-mond Weber and Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Wadzeck. Auxiliary Meets. . . The American Legion Auxiliary met at the home of Mrs. Grace Peterson Pe-terson on Monday evening, even-ing, with Mrs. May Wilson Wil-son as assistant hostess. The main discussion centered around raising money for sending girls to Girls State this summer. sum-mer. The price has been raised to $50. This is a most worthwhile project, and the Auxiliary will sponsor fund-raising events ev-ents to cover this expense ex-pense when the weather moderates a bit. Artist Visits. . . Jim Aston of Jim and El's cafe in Hanksville spent some time in town on Friday, talking with Mrs. Al Wadzeck about her Cow Camp Originals, He admired the one in progress, "Skilled Labor" La-bor" very much, and advised ad-vised Shirley to keep on with clay, and not to become be-come too involved in bronze casting as it is a complete technique in itself. it-self. Mrs. Lula Twitchel, Mrs. Sylvia Bigelow and Mrs. Eliza Burnett went to Moab to a Leadership meeting last week. Mrs. Wilcox Improves... Mrs. Ruth Wilcox is out of intensive care at St. Mary's in Grand Jet. and is much improved. She suffered severe breathing difficulties last week and was hospitalized. hos-pitalized. She will stay long enough for tests to be run to determine what her difficulty is. Son, Bob, of Casper, Wyoming is here with his father while she has been in the hospital. He is traveling back and forth to a field in Farm-ington Farm-ington in which his company com-pany is interested, so will be close by for a while. Visits Jake Fish. . . Joe Baker drove to Ka-nab Ka-nab to look at a big boat being constructed there by Grand Canyon Expeditions, Expedi-tions, then went on to spend the weekend at Glen Canyon City visiting visit-ing an old friend, Jake Fish, who used to be around here during the uranium boom. Joe reports re-ports he is the same old Jake, a character all the way! Jake lives in a small trailer house, but needed need-ed more room, because he has lots of company. So he built on a cabana. Still, it was inadequate, so he got some of his |
