Show Firmer Exchmgo Student Hecomfs Even though the European Euro-pean attitude towards Americans was perceived perceiv-ed as being one of dislike by Kathy Winfield, she admits she is already homesick for the European Euro-pean countries in which she spent the last two and a half years. Kathy began her experiences ex-periences abroad after she graduated from Grand County High, when she went to Sweden as an exchange student sponsored by the Moab Rotary Club. During that time she lived with a Swedish family and attended at-tended high school as a junior although the workload would be compared com-pared to that of a college freshman or sophomore in the United States. Kathy Ka-thy spend a year in Sweden Swe-den before returning to Moab for a short time. While she was still there, she found a job in Switzerland Swit-zerland through a Swedish Swe-dish paper, and her next year was filled with the duties of a governess taking care of children for a Swiss family. Kathy' s stay in Switzerland Swit-zerland was ended abruptly, however, as she was unable to renew her work permit and was forced to leave the country coun-try within three days after af-ter being notified of its non-renewal. She was lucky enough to find a similar job as a governess govern-ess in Belgium, though, where she worked for four months before com- 'U ing home last Decern- '' ber. She has been home now for about three weeks and is working for Tag-A-Long Tours in Moab. Wrhile in Europe, Kathy had the opportunity to travel extensively thru most countries, with the exception of Spain and , Italy. She says she would very much like to go back I sometime in the future, but is ready to settle down for a while no i that she has traveled ( and satisfied her curiosity curi-osity by observing for- v eign customs and life- . styles. In speaking about European Eu-ropean customs and their way of life in general, h Kathy mentioned that the f family institution is still close-knit and of extreme ex-treme important to most people there. She says these countries really don't have much of a drug problem, and the attitudes of the young people is somewhat different. dif-ferent. The youth are usually busy creating entertainment en-tertainment for themselves, them-selves, according to Kathy, Ka-thy, and one example is the operating and partial funding of youth centers by the young people themselves. Kathy feels that she has quite a changed chan-ged outlook on youth problems pro-blems now, and says she plans to get involved as much as possible with the youth in this com-irmnitv ; i M ' ' r. ' :.
