Saxbe reported. The increase was the largest for the period in six years. By comparison, compari-son, crime rose only one per cent during the first nine months last year. Mr. Saxbe noted that the upsurge in crime began be-gan in the last quarter in 1973. Crime increased 5 per cent in that period, 15 per cent in the first quarter of 1974, and 16 per cent during the first half of this year. "The continuing increase in-crease in crime requires an intensification of our efforts to identify the causes, improve crime prevention, and insure swift prosecution," the Attorney General said. The latest figures were contained in the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports, which were released re-leased today by FBI Director Di-rector Clarence M. Kel-ley. |
