Hilgendorff. A number of the veteran players of the past two seasons are back again, and, with some talented new members, the orchestra is performing perform-ing better than ever before at this stage of their preparation. Violinists Violin-ists David Dalton, David Latimer, Mrs. Eileen Bird, Elaine Jessee, Mrs. Minerva Jessee and Dorothy Clark, have returned with an added year of experience. Thora Johnson and Glenna Webb in the viola section; Steven Clark and Mrs. Martha Jones on the cello part, and Annie Marie Palfreyman on the bass viol, have shown similar simi-lar progress, and Director Hilgendorff Hilgen-dorff now rates these musicians as the core of a fine string section. LaRell Johnson, Dorene Fox and Joan Alleman are expected to furnish fur-nish plenty of talent on the French horns, while veteran Ted Davis and newcomer Patricia Bills bold down the clarinet chairs. On the difficult and important obie part, Rex Sutherland, one of the original stalwarts of the orchestra, is assisted as-sisted by Douglas Childs. Among the prominent new players are two young ladies, Connie Banner and Janice Jensen, who play the flute, and Dean Warren, trumpet player. The civic orchestra project has attracted musicians from Provo and Spanish Fork to play with the Springville and Mapleton members and several from Payson are considering, con-sidering, the possibility of joining the group. Through the generous donations of clubs and individuals of Springville, Spring-ville, and the proceeds of previous concert efforts, the orchestra has purchased a cello and two bass violas which are available for use by those who would like to play but do not have instruments of their own. Openings are available for musi-sians musi-sians in all sections of the orchestra, orches-tra, and, all who have played in high school or college are invited to join the group and take part in this community activity. Rehearsals are being held each Thursday at 7:30 p. m. in the Third-Ninth ward Relief Society hall. Details of the first concert of the season will be announced next week. |
