Halls of the Fourth ward church will resound November 9 with harmonies har-monies of The Swanee Singers male chorus, which is coming here as a ward building fund benefit sponsored by the Fifth ward. Directed by Earl Donelson, this group, made up of professional men, salesmen, laborers and clerks, will present an hour and half program pro-gram of varied musical numbers intended to please every listener. The chorus recently won national recognition in a contest in San Francisco, and last season toured the northwest appearing before capacity audiences. The program is scehduled to begin at 8:15 p.m. Dorothy Kimball Keddington, soprano so-prano soloist, who has become widely known on the radio, concert con-cert stage and church musical presentations, will again appear with the chorus. This will be a return engagement for the singers, having appeared in Springville two years ago. Edn-a Inglis Hamilton, popular young organist-pianist, will accompany accom-pany the chorus and is scheduled to present organ and piano solos. She is a newcomer to the group, having recently returned from the east wheTe she appeared on a concert con-cert tour. Selections by the chorus will include in-clude four groups of varied types. First group will consist of intricate intri-cate creation of the masters. Next comes well known negro numbers, then four religious selections and finally a lighter type, but concluding conclud-ing with a well known wast moving mov-ing favorite, using Mrs. Keddington Kedding-ton and the chorus. Mrs. Keddington is scheduled to present soprano selections between two groups by the chorus, with Mrs. Hamilton sharing the other two extra periods at the piano and organ. y , , , The Swanee Singers originated in Richards ward in the spring of 1914. The chorus was organized by John C. Donelfon and the late Ernest R. Kimball, with J. Spencer Spen-cer Cornwall as director. The chorus as that time was limited to twenty-five voices. For the first few years their programs consisted consis-ted entirely of minstrel shows. Later, in the organization, a complete com-plete set of officers was chosen, and the name "Swanee Singers," was adopted. The chorus won third place in the "Eisteddfod" at San Francisco during dur-ing the World's Fair of 1939. In 1941 the chorus went by invitation in-vitation to the A. F. of M. Music Clubs at Los AngeleF.. Last year they made an extensive exten-sive tour of the northwest, covering cover-ing a tour of over 2100 miles, and including engagements as far north as Victoria, B. C. |
