Along with the purchase pur-chase of the new truck has come also a number of improvements on the city waterworks system, all of which have a bearing on retaining re-taining the present rates. The truck was delivered Friday and during the day official tests were made by representatives of the fire underwriters. They reported repor-ted that the truck pumped 780 gallons of water per minute and that the standard equipment was only 600 gallons. The truck is a high pressure Class A pumper which is capable of pumping off two lines at 900 gallons per minute. min-ute. It is the very latest model in production at this time. Work har, also beguun on mapping map-ping the city's fire fighting facilities, facili-ties, water power, hydrant supply and other details and this will go on during the next two weeks before be-fore a definite statement on water rates can be determined. While the new equipment was on display Friday together with other fire fighting facilities, the personnel person-nel of the department was highly commended by the visiting officials for their efficiency and fine performance. per-formance. During the evening a banquet was held to which the members of the volunteer fire department and their wives, the testing engineers and wives, Mayor Sterling Price and Mrs. Price, members of the city council and their partners, (Ccirutinued on Page 2) New Fire Truck (Continued from Page One) City Recorder William Bringhurst and Mrs. Bringhurst, City Attorney Attor-ney Glen W. During remarks, Mr. Ros?, explained ex-plained that it would take a well-trained well-trained fire department to handle the new equipment, since it is so much faster and different than the other types oftrucks. There was distinct danger to lives of firemen if it was not handled correctly, he stated and also commented that the addition of the truck would have great bearing on the rates to be established. Mr. Burress gave some startling statistics among them being the fact that each year some 2,000 children under the age of 12 were killed by fire. He stressed the fact that fire rates were not the sole purpose of the acquisition of the new truck, but that the additional safety precautions supplied by the i newest methods of handling fires was valuable in the lives of the community. Reed Rigtrup was in charge of the program and the Sage Creek boys furnished musical numbers. |
