Show ARROWHEAD MINE ACTIVITY GROWS Rapid Development of Camp Due to Pluck of Pioneer Mining Man. New Companies Organized Recently Install Equipment to Begin Operations. With one mine producing twenty sacks of ore per day, ranging in value from ( $200 to $1000 per ton; with three other companies organized and preparing for deep work and two others being formed for development purposes, and "with scores of individual owners sinking shafts and doing location work, the new camp of Arrowhead is making a splendid start, considering that it Is only a few weeks since the first sulphide ore was struck, says W. A. Leonard, editor of the Ely .Mining Record. New companies which have secured giound are being incorporated daily, and, 'like the new Divide district, which was "discovered only last spring, all of them are financed for deep workings. By January next it is probable that from twenty'to thirty companies will have been urganized and in operation, to say nothing noth-ing of the work being done by individuals. i Arrowhead Mine. Due to the practical mining knowledge, pluck and perserverance of Peter Fox, an old-time miner and operator of southern south-ern Nevada, the Arrowhead mine has sprung into prominence almost overnight over-night as ono of the sensational producers of the state, and now promises to rival the records of any of the Tonopah mines a-s a producer within the next few months. Indeed, it is doubtful if any of tho mines of Tonopah ever produced richer ores tlian those which are now coming from the l(K and 175-foot levels, much of which la picture rock and will run into the thousands of dollars per ton. When the writer left Arrowhead, twenty sacks and three candle boxes of high-grade high-grade ore had been hoisted on the forming form-ing shaft, and all of this ore would run from $299 to 51000 per ton, while many samples would run Into the thousands. Peter Fox secured a lease and bond on the Arrowhead mine eighteen months ago and secured small bunches of very good ore In the oxidized zone above the 100-loot 100-loot level, at which point the sulphides came in, the shaft being continued to a depth of seventy-five feet in low-grade aiiver ore. Abandoned Oxidized Zone. Mr. Fox finally abandoned the oxidized porphyry zone and continued his explorations explora-tions In the sulphides, but it was only I within the past two months that his energy was rewarded by the discovery' of silver ores of shipping values. Realizing that he had brought in a bonanza, but lacking capital for rapid development, de-velopment, Mr. Fox visited Tonopah( taking tak-ing along a plentiful supply of high-grade rock, and soon succeeded in organizing the Arrowhead Mining company. At the 100-foot level a drift has been run seventy-five feet along the ledge and a crosscut twelve feet, all in ore of a good rniliing grade, while the high-grade is expected to average around S200. On the 175-foot level a drift has been run to the west forty-two feet and another to the east seventy-five feet, with crosscuts cross-cuts fourteen, and sixteen feet each, all in ore, and so far neither wall has been reached, and high-grade ore Is being taken from all workings. Winze Being Sunk. On the upper level a winze has been sunk from the east crosscut, which is going go-ing down in high grade, none of' which will average less than 5200 per ton. Two Bhift3 of miners are now employed in the various workings of the property, and it is stated by the management that not a pound of rock is hoisted to the surface sur-face which does not carry good milling lvalues, hence there is no waste dump, which cannot be truthfully said of any other mine in the state. Since the success of th e A rrowh ead mpany, three new companies have been incorporated on adjoining ground, the J&rowhead Annex on the northwest and fbe Spearhead on the north, .each o' nfiich has ordered hoisting plants and will be break ing ground In a few days, i&e companies are officered by Tonopah qriid Goldfield peoph; and are already financed for deep development work. -The Arrowhead Extension company has ""group of claims adjoining the Arrowhead Arrow-head property on the northwest, which eTld'.ines the Arrowhead, with similar porphyry and quartz showing, and upon which development work will soon be commenced. Samples of ore taken from v orkings on the property show values ranging from $49 to $J7. Locate Claims. The Goodman brothers of McGill and Al Thackery of Tonopah were fortunate securing t'r.e Sunshine group of eight Ciklms from W. S. flyde, and have (oat no t'vrc in establishing their camp. The property is located about a alf-rnlle aouthwest of the Arrowhead and on the ntime porphyry zone, and in intersected rtth similar quartz leads, in which the ones of the quartz made, a shaft has Hen sunk on the property to a depth of fluents'-five, feet, at which point the eu!-piide3 eu!-piide3 were struck, from which twelve Simples were taken gl ing values ra ng-Ing ng-Ing from S1.50 to ?A per ton. Selected samples of high grade gave values from ft.05 to $784.06 In silver and gold. A drift has been run to the west for a distance dis-tance of thirty feet, which cuts the lop of a vein of sulphide ore giving good values, and will undoubtedly lead to bddle3 of nigh-grade ore at greater depth. ' Adjoining the Sunshine group to the ast and south. Charles Osterlund of Ely secured a group of seven claims and left Kly Tuesday morning to close the deal, take over the property and start development develop-ment work. The surface ground Is Identical In formation to that of the Arrowhead Ar-rowhead and Arrowhead Consolidated. But little development work has been done on the property, but values are shown in the surface workings. |
