Show NORWEGIAN STUDIES U. S. MINE METHODS American mining methods are needed In Norway to make mining and the smelting of minerals successful there, said F. P. Egeberg, a mining engineer of Christiania, Norway, who, with his wife. Is visiting Salt Lake while on a tour of the large smelting and mining districts .of the United States. Mr. Egeberg said . mining in Norway Is at a standstill at 'present because of after-war conditions. . Sulphur, zinc and copper are the chief mining products of th.p country, he said. "Some American machinery is already being used in Norwegian mines." Mr. Egeberg said, "and the necessary machinery ma-chinery cannot be imported," he added. Electricity is rapidly coming into use in Norway, he stated, the government having hav-ing taken the initiative in harnessing the waterfalls. Electricity is taking the place of coal in many districts, he said The new industry of making saltpeter from the air, Mr. Egeberg continued, is successful, suc-cessful, as over 3000 workers are engaged in this field of work.
