Show is WK E. 0. P.51MH National Chairman to Call Committee to Fix Convention Con-vention Date and Place. CHICAGO. Nov. 10. A formal call will be issued tomorrow by Will H. Hays, l chairman of the Republican national com- mitiee. for a meeting of the committee j in Washington, December 10. to fix the dale and place for the national convention conven-tion in 1920. This Information was learned from authoritative au-thoritative sources tonight, following an I informal session of twenty-five members of the committee. It was learned, also from this same source, that the meeting today was one of a series of informal gatherings v.hicn have been held the second Monday in the month recently at various state headquarters. head-quarters. These meetings, it was said, will be continued for some time. A detailed, plan of organization which will provide for full participation of Ite-publican Ite-publican women in the future affairs of their party was adopted by the Republican Repub-lican national committee at an informal meeting held here today. The plan adopted was recommended by the Republican national women's executive execu-tive committee, of which Mrs. Medill Mccormick Mc-cormick of Illinois was chairman, appointed ap-pointed a year ago to work out a practical method by which women could take an active part with men in the management of the Republican party. In putting into effect this plan, the committee com-mittee today created a woman s division of the Republican national committee and elected Mrs. John G. South of Frankfort, Ky., as chairman. (Chicago Tribune Special Service.) CHICAGO, Nov. 10. When the Republicans Repub-licans nominate their candidate for president presi-dent next June there will be a campaign fund of generous proportions to carry them through to election day. It is believed be-lieved that already nearly JI.OOO.CmjO has been pledged the Republican national committee in advance of the convention as a result of the decision of the committee com-mittee to go arter the mouey in advance. ad-vance. The enthusiasm that marked the gathering gath-ering of western members of the national na-tional committee at the Congress hotel today is believed due in part to an informal in-formal report of Treasurer Fred W. L'p-ham L'p-ham that he is meeting with success in raising the national campaign fund. Just what Mr. L'pham did report cannot be j learned officially, though it is understood that the Republicans will be well supplied sup-plied with funds for the presidential election elec-tion If the success in securing guarantees guaran-tees continues. The gathering of the Republican committeemen com-mitteemen was one of the affairs that Chairman Will H. Hays holds every other inonth to keep the members full of ginger. Next month the meeting will be held in New York City for Die convenience of the eastern committeemen. It was only a coincidence that the I.owden for president committee opened Us headquarters in the Congress hotel lha same day that the national committee commit-tee met. It proved advantageous, though, as many of Uie Republican leaden who are here made friendly calls and helped in giving the rooms an unusually lively appearance for a first day. The L.owden headquarters are on the second floor of the hotel, just across from the famous Florentine room, the scene of great excitement ex-citement during previous conventions. The first visitors today were Edward Morrow. yo ernor-elect of Kentucky, and Committeeman Alvin T. Hert. who man-api-d Q&fl limr iminfl campaign for Mr. Morrow. It was Just a social call, although al-though pleasing to David K. Shanahan. Harold L. Ickes and the others who are to be in charge of the headquarters. "That's a mighty good start." said Mr. Shanahan. "It Is not every candidate who can have two such winners open their q'.arters for them." Every indication at the Congress hotel confirm previous irnpresalons that Chicago Chi-cago ha? the Republican national convention con-vention clinched. While members of the national committee would not iy how the Intend to vote, the way In which the different state? arc reserving space at the hotel for headquarters gives a line on the situation. They would not be so sure of meeting the headquarter. 1t Is believed, unless they had tips from their national committeemen as to how things 'land. |
