Show CAVALRY NEEDED. In accordance with the expressed wish of General Pershing, approved by the war department, fifteen regiments of cavalry will be formed for the national na-tional army. A division of cavalry is already in process of organization at El Paso. There men, however, are regulars, reg-ulars, and it has been generally supposed sup-posed they were intended for border service. But if mounted troops are to be used in connection ' with our operations opera-tions in Europe, it may be that the division di-vision now forming at El Paso will be later taken over the ocean and the fifteen regiments of national army cavalry cav-alry sent to the border. There has been a considerable amount of shifting about of organizations ever since the war began. Several national guard cavalry regiments, the First Utah among the number, have been turned into artillery artil-lery outfits, and three regiments of regular cavalry stationed at Fort D. A. Russell have recently undergone the same transformation. This is additional proof that conditions at the front are constantly changing, and that the plans of the war department must be shifted to meet the new demands. |
