Show DEFEAT OF GERMANY NECESSARY TO PEACE Former President Taft Takes Strong Ground in Address at Atlanta, Georgia. ATLANTA, Ga., Feb. 1. Peaee cau be possible only after the United States and the co-belligerents have driven Germany to her knees, former President W. H. Taft declared today in an address at the Liberty theater at Camp Gordon. "The war has not been won," Mr. Taft said, "Germany has in her possession pos-session Belgium, a part of northern France, holds Serbia, Rumania, Poland and the Baltic provinces, and peace now, even were it made upon the basis of 'no annexations, no indemnities' would fail to achieve the great purpose for which the allies have made heart rending sacrifices." The man who proposes peace now, he continued, either does not see the stake for which the allies are fighting or wishes the German military 'autocracy to control the destinies of all peoples. |
